(February, 2011, CHICAGO)- Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced that she is endorsing Harry Osterman in the 48th Ward Aldermanic race.
“I have worked with Harry for the past 11 years, first as a colleague in the Illinois General Assembly and now as Attorney General,” said Attorney General Madigan. “Harry and I share many of the same progressive values, as well as a strong dedication to our constituents. Harry is committed to his community, and I know he will be dedicated and effective for the people of the 48th Ward.”
During his time in the Illinois legislature, Osterman collaborated with Attorney General Madigan on a broad range of issues. In response to the Virginia Tech shootings, Osterman and Madigan worked hand in hand to increase gun control laws; creating a reporting process to allow the Illinois State Police to receive information about persons who are diagnosed as a danger to themselves or the community and have been prohibited under Illinois law from receiving or retaining a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.
Upon hearing word of the endorsement, Osterman stated, “I am honored by Attorney General Madigan’s endorsement and support. Our community has had a strong history of progressive leadership in Illinois with Lisa Madigan. I hope to continue fighting for the progressive values that we share.”
Several other key pieces of legislation include the Illinois Homeownership Protection Act, the Internet Safety Act, the Illinois Nursing Home Safety Bill, the Lead Paint Prevention Act, creating a Cyber-Crime Location Database and increased sentencing requirements for child pornography.
